Marrakech City Life · Fez

The shared 3-day tour via Erg Chebbi

A shared group of up to 30 is collected from hotels and riads across Fez at 7:30 AM and driven over the Atlas to a nomad tent in the Erg Chebbi dunes, then through the gorges to Marrakech. It's the most-reviewed of the tours on this site, and the one to pick when price matters more than the size of the group.

Fez to Marrakech 3-Day Shared Desert Tour

About this experience

Marrakech City Life picks you up at 7:30 AM from your hotel or riad in Fez. If your riad sits deep in the medina, they send you a pickup point at the nearest spot a car can reach. Then it's a long first day: Ifrane, a one-hour stop in Midelt and on to the Erg Chebbi dunes, where you swap the vehicle for a camel and ride to a nomad tent for dinner and the night.

Guests are honest about day one. One reviewer timed it at 9 and a half hours from pickup to the camels, arriving around sunset, and the camel ride is about 30 to 45 minutes each way. Day two runs through the Todra Gorge and Boumalne Dades to a hotel in the Dades Valley or the Ouarzazate area. Day three takes in Ait Ben Haddou and the Tizi n'Tichka pass before Marrakech. The local guide at Ait Ben Haddou costs about 2 euros a person and isn't included.

Two things to know before you book. The tent is a basic nomad tent; two guests took the deluxe tent or luxury camp and recommended it, one for the shower at the end of the day. And with 1,297 reviews at 4.8, not everyone was happy: one guest in May 2026 reported the operator didn't show up on the day. Keep the confirmation and the operator's phone number handy, and message them the evening before.

What guests say

★★★★★

Soufiane was an amazing tour guide! He explained everything very well, and was very knowledgable. [...] Abdelkader navigated through many difficult mountain roads while making sure the ride was as smooth as possible.

★★★★★

This is a very informative tour giving you an insight to Southern Morocco. Our guide Ali was very informative, patient and helpful with the group. I advise on paying the extra for deluxe tent as a shower at the end of the day is welcomed.

★★★★★

The camel ride was legit and really good amount of time! It’s not just an experience of riding camels, instead, we used the camels as our transportation through the desert. The tent is doable because it’s in the dessert, but the hotel was amazing! It has a pool and amazing view.

Yami C. · Jun 2025
★★★★★

The actual camel rides are only about 1/2-3/4 hr going into camp and coming back out the next day. However, this is plenty long enough if you're not used to riding. We opted for the luxury camp and it was very well done!

Tips before you book

  • Pack an overnight bag the night before. One guest wrote that it "wasn't clear what luggage to take" at the camels, so ask the operator what to bring.
  • Ask about the deluxe tent when you book. One guest who paid for it mentions the shower first.
  • Message the operator the evening before to confirm your pickup point and time.
  • Carry small euro coins or dirhams for the Ait Ben Haddou guide and for lunches.
